Even though India turned 62, even though the nation is said to be the largest democracy in the world, the country is yet to develop its thinking. It should not be so shocking for the police when they found the network of human traffickers in the capital after the 18years old housewife was sold to a ”haryanvi” man for just Rs.60,000 .
She was abducted from a hospital in Delhi and allegedly sold to a man in a haryana’s village. Her buyers couldn’t get married all these years due to physical disability. On Monday two persons were arrested for kidnapping her. The police claimed the involvement of the accused in similar cases in the past.
During suspecting, police found that there is an intricate network of suppliers, buyers, kidnapers spread all over haryana. Police further said that people get to know about the racketeers through word of mouth. They also found that a woman called Baby is active in Karnal and nearby areas. The active trafficking has made buying a women as easy as buying some food.
The 18 year old housewife is no exception. She is one of the millions of women and children being trafficked and exploited. There are various cases including that of a 15 year old girl who was recently allegedly kidnapped by three men , including 2 BPO cab drivers after she allegedly refused to have relation with one of them. They abducted her from her Kirti nagar’s residence, thrashing her father. The west Delhi police rescued her on Tuesday.
Article 23 of the Indian constitution prohibits trafficking in any form. Through special legislations like the immoral traffic prevention act (ITPA), 1956, the bounded labor act 1957 and the juvenile justice act 2000 were passed but acts and law enforcement scenario presents a dismal picture today.
Though many countries have signed up treaties including India In the past but the question is - Are these treaties and acts are really initiating responsible actions? Though many NGO’s are active in rescuing women and children but Are the citizens aware enough to stop this crime? In a country whose President herself is a women is just insulting its spirit to be called a free nation where women cannot even roam around freely.
Hundred’s of rapes, molestations, trafficking for slavery, killings of a daughter , sister, mother and wife is like a black spot which has put up a question mark on the country’s sovereignty. Every cruelty against a child and women is shameful for India. Can you still call India a free and the largest democracy of the world?
